CNEX is a visual media platform, meaning “See Next.” Our goal is to systematically document the changes in contemporary Chinese society through an annual theme.

Each year’s theme guides the creation of documentaries, images, writings, and art installations, allowing creators to express their views on key issues. These themes relate to major events or social trends, helping documentarians convey the essence of these times and leaving a lasting testimony.

CNEX hosts annual workshops where young Chinese directors pitch projects, with selected proposals receiving production grants. We also hold online documentary competitions for broader participation and invite writers, photographers, and artists to create theme-based works.

We welcome global perspectives on our themes and collect related works from other cultures to broaden our understanding. The annual themes and associated works form a comprehensive map of 21st-century Chinese societal changes, providing a valuable resource for contemporary reflection and future reference.
